ITAC

Information Technology Advisory Committee

Charge and Scope
ITAC will be responsible for receiving project requests, analyzing them, prioritizing among them, and allocating funds for bond-related technology projects. This includes the $95 million intended for District-wide projects. The $87 million already earmarked for the technology within the colleges can be allocated and monitored using existing practices, but would be influenced by the vision, standards and guidelines from the ITAC.

Additional Charge to the Technology Advisory Council
Mixed in with these activities related to funding, the Council would have three additional responsibilities. They would engage in strategic, futuristic visioning concerning technology; they would advocate/promote appropriate technological standards for the District; and they would sponsor projects as an outgrowth of the visioning and adoption of emerging standards.

Process
The council will establish a well-understood process for colleges and district office to follow in submitting proposals. This will include establishing a set of guiding principles that will help ensure that proposed projects are aligned with the District’s institutional goals. On a cyclical basis (twice each year?) the ITAC will seek advice from TLC, SPAC, FAC, CDAC, Ocotillo, and ASC. Having consulted with these other groups, the ITAC will produce a coherent district-wide planning document that prioritizes the potential allocations. Those areas with allocated spending authority will be accountable to this council for reporting actual expenditures and results associated with the allocation.

Impact for SMCC
Recently ITAC approved a proposal to provide a district license SoftChalk, a tool to create content and interactivity for Bb.  Also, the district purchased a limited seat license for Elluminate, a tool that facilitates teleconferencing with application sharing and voice.  A SoftChalk demo will be held in the TLC in October and we are currently arranging for the district representative to demo Elluminate in the TLC.
